It’s not a crime to have display public affection in Thailand but it’s depend on where and what you do. Holding hand was taboo decades ago even among Thai men and women but with modern western influences, you now see young Thai holding hands in public.
Some sector of city such as soi cowboy, patpong, or pattaya city commonly see bar girl, gogo girl holding hands with foreigners which might give you the “OK” signal. But those area are only 3 little city in Thailand. Beside airport welcome hug, goodbye hug, minimized public affection is advised.
Affection is a personal freedom, so no one can stop you. Too much display your love in public could only caused people to look at you and your one a bit down.
I have many girlfriends who will not date “farang” or “Caucasian” for fear of being looked at as “hooker” and they all educated master degree thai lady.
Love has no boundary, so the one master degree who fear to hold hands with her farang boyfriend is now happily married.
